A relationship? A travel companion? All better topics than "avoiding drama. Women don't want to be talked down to on your dating profile.
There's no need to tell women something you think they don't know. Women are smarter than you; deal with it. Don't patronize women or be condescending to them on your dating profile.
You'll show women you're true colors; you're a jerk. Do this instead: Share what you're looking for in a partner in an upbeat positive fashion. Another blunder men make is sharing reasons "not" to choose them like the guy below. He shares how Church is important to him and tells women if Church isn't important to them the reader then they won't be a good match.
Thanks, Captain Obvious. Like this guy, never write on your dating profile why a woman won't be a "good match" with you. If a woman doesn't want to date a guy because of something they see on his profile, they simply won't contact the guy. There's no need to write that "we won't be a good match. Do this instead: Ditch anything telling women how you aren't a good match. If Church is important to you like the guy above, sharing why it's important is a much better alternative to telling women you aren't a good match.
Online dating can be frustrating but don't let it agitate you to the point where you take to express your anger on your dating profile. I just shake my head reading a profile like the one above. Talk about bitter. Your profile should be positive and nothing good will come from you "going off" on your dating profile.
Do this instead: Take your frustrations out elsewhere; the gym or go outside and get some fresh air. Lashing out at women on your dating profile isn't attractive. Always keep your profile positive and upbeat. You want women to smile when they read your profile. Don't write you joined a dating site because you want to "see what's out there" or are there "checking things out. Women don't want men who are wishy-washy and indecisive. They want a guy who "takes charge" and saying you're just "checking it out" is not a confident way to start your profile.
Do this instead: Own it! You're on a dating site for one reason; to meet someone. So start your profile with these words, "I'm here for a relationship" or step up and write what you're looking for. Even if you're looking for something casual you'll do better if you say it from the outset. A well-rounded dating profile is key to meeting women. Do it right and the sky's the limit. You will meet women; a lot of women. However, all too often men make blunders like the ones above.
If you made any of these mistakes take them off right now. You're aren't doing yourself any favors. Just one of these types of mistakes is catastrophic to your chances of getting an email from a woman.
Don't show a lack of effort. Don't make women do the work. Don't list what you don't like. Don't talk about an ex-girlfriend. Don't attack women. Don't share what you aren't looking for. So, don't list you aren't looking for: Drama Games Hookups Casual sex Overweight women Trump supporters Liberals Do this instead: Write what you are looking for. Don't lecture women. Sign up now. Whether you're new to the world of online dating or have been in the game for a while and are tired of the mismatches coming your way, re-visiting your profile and asking yourself if you're putting your best foot forward is a smart thing to do. Trust me, I've been there, done that, and my advice is rooted in trial and error. My thoughts below are not things you "should" do. I've been on the inside and these are things you must do if you want better matches or hope to increase your response rate.
Here's my list of five things to NEVER write in your online dating profile:. Complaints about the ex. If you think this warrants a shot of Captain Obvious, you're right. Some people write about what their ex did or did not do that ultimately led them to being single. Guess what? I don't want to talk about your ex on a first date, but good news! Talk about what you have to offer; not what someone else did or didn't bring to the table.
Insults about online dating. Why bite the hand that could possibly feed you your soulmate? Sure, we all know there's a fair share of nut jobs out there, but that's true no matter where you go in life, physically or virtually. Making fun of online dating and the people who use it in your profile is a deal-breaker.
Who cares? Own it. Don't make fun of it. You're using online dating, the people you're trying to meet are using it, so why insult the method of finding love that you're currently trying out? Talk about why you've decided to give it a fair shake, not why it's a joke.
Don't ever, ever lie about anything in your profile. If things go well and at some point you decide to meet up, the truth will come out.
So if you're 5'5" but virtually stretch yourself to 5'10" on a profile, your date will see right through or over you. If your pictures are from your college days and you're pushing 35, put up a recent picture. What is the point of securing a first date that is built on false perception?
That's just about the dumbest thing I've heard. And this goes for both boys and girls. Are you 29 pounds heavier now than you are in your pictures?
Do you really think your date won't see it? Either drop the weight or own it and be honest about it. Don't say you have a better job than you do, you're looking for a type of relationship that you're not, or you have no kids if you have six somewhere out there. Any date or relationship built on any falsity is guaranteed to fail. Your profile shouldn't be your autobiography, but deception? No thanks. Stock phrases. Do you enjoy "living life to the fullest"? Do you love "spending time with friends" and "the outdoors"?
People often have trouble writing profiles so they use stock phrases. Unfortunately, these stock phrases have no personality. They're a dime a dozen and you end up blending in with the rest of the John Smith's out there no matter how cool you may really be. Personalize your profile using a technique many writing teachers like me share with their students: show don't tell.
Don't tell me that you live life to the fullest. Show me that you do. Show who you are using descriptive, non-cliche words because trust me, do you think you're the only one who "works hard, but plays harder"? Demands and expectations for dating you. I mean, feel free to include this list in your profile if you never want to be contacted by anyone worthwhile. But why channel your inner narcissist in your dating profile?
A better approach to dating and relationships in general is to take things one step at a time. If you meet someone who is into you and you're into them, then you can discuss what things are important to BOTH of you in a relationship as things progress. Instead of listing dating expectations because of what you feel you deserve and I do hope you deserve great things! Write a profile that shows you're a great person with a lot to offer, not a stranger with a lot of demands.
Take away note: Make your online dating profile a must read for the right reasons. Erskine is the owner of Word com , an e-based writing business that helps online daters create personalized online dating profiles that work. She's a firm believer that a small investment upfront saves a lot of wasted money and time on first dates that should have never happened. She knows what to write and not to write because she's seen the good, the bad and the oh so ugly.
